If you would like to go out for a drink, downtown Asheville has as many bars as it does restaurants and shops.
One of the most popular pizzerias in town, Barley's, also has one of the best selections of regional microbreweries on tap. Barley's non-smoking downstairs dining room has one long list, while the upstairs room (complete with billiards, darts and foosball) has another exhaustive selection. The Bierhaus has an equally great selection, with a heavier emphasis on bottled beers.
Asheville has also become known as a center of award-winning breweries. Two of the five breweries visited by the Asheville Brews Cruise tour service are located downtown. Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company, which has two locations, brews most of its beer at its downtown location on Coxe Avenue. Green Man Brewing also has two locations, both of them downtown: the Jack of the Wood has a great Irish pub feel with live music, while Dirty Jack's serves from inside a warehouse on the outskirts of downtown.
If it's cocktails you're looking for, try Magnolia's or the Flying Frog. The New French Bar has a large outdoors courtyard and is one of several establishments that carry the local Biltmore wines.
