If you are planning a stay at an Asheville resort during the holiday season, you will notice many small towns in Western North Carolina love to celebrate the unique small town Christmas experience.

The Dillsboro Festival of Lights and Luminaries is one such celebration, being held over the course of two weekends – Dec. 6-7 and Dec. 13-14.

So named for the 2,500 luminaries lining the streets and sidewalks, this magical ambience will create a holiday experience you won’t forget. The charming atmosphere is also aided by horse and buggy rides, carolers, live music and holiday treats, hot cider and cocoa inside the stores.

Children will be happy to know Santa is waiting for them at Town Hall. And folks of all ages will enjoy the ice skating rink.

Shops in Dillsboro’s historic downtown include Bradley’s General Store, the Cheddar Box, Country Traditions, the Dillsboro Chocolate Factory, KJ’s Needles in a Haystack, Magnolia Jewelry, Monkey Toes, Nancy Tut’s Christmas Shop, Shirley’s Boutique and more.

Galleries include Dogwood Crafters, Golden Carp, Jarrett House Giftshop, Oaks Gallery, Riverwood Pottery and Treehouse Pottery.
