October 19-20, 2013

Lake Lure has always been a popular day trip for those staying at Asheville resort cabins, and the Lake Lure Arts and Crafts Festival will give you an extra reason to visit this scenic area.

The biannual festivals have been a tradition since the 1980s and feature music and food, along with arts and crafts.

This fall’s event will be on Oct. 19-20.        1dcf3a1aecb88f844db517e8475adc80

The town of Lake Lure and its namesake offer plenty of other activities to pair with the arts fest, from Asheville trout fishing to rock climbing.

Set in a wide mountain valley of cliff lined ridges, National Geographic called Lake Lure one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in world.

Boat tours of the lake offer a unique perspective from down below, while a trip to the top of Chimney Rock State Park gives a sweeping panoramic vista.

The town operates a beach and small water park, while North Carolina’s state parks system is creating a world-class network of trails in newly preserved lands surrounding the gorge.

Several shops on the main strip offer souvenirs and crafts, while the restaurants in town and on the lake specialized in seafood, grilled food and scenery.

And if you’re wondering, just about any local can tell you some of the sites where the movie “Dirty Dancing” was filmed.

Asheville locals love to make the scenic drive on U.S. 74 over Bear Wallow Mountain and down “The Straightaway,” making Asheville resorts the perfect choice for someone interested in visiting Lake Lure.
