Some federal facilities along the Blue Ridge Parkway might be closed, but those staying in Asheville resorts will notice the road itself remains open, despite the federal government shutdown.  That means you can still drive the parkway, stop at the overlooks, take photos of the beautiful vistas and stroll along the trails.

Elsewhere, other major attractions are open for people staying in Asheville luxury cabins.

Chimney Rock State Park still welcomes visitors to the top of the world, and other state parks will be unaffected.

Sightseers can also visit the waterfalls at DuPont State Forest.

The Biltmore Estate, America’s largest private residence, will keep its doors open.

Hikers can still blaze all the trails throughout Pisgah National Forest and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

And, as you can imagine, things are still lively at the shops, restaurants and microbreweries of Asheville.

And while some federal websites will be down, there is plenty of information on our website about outdoors activities.

For more information about the Blue Ridge Parkway, try the Blue Ridge Parkway Association.

For information about the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, visit the Friends of the Smokies.

So, don’t let the headlines discourage you. The mountains are still here and they are open for business!
