When it comes to summer events, Asheville has some old favorites that don’t disappoint, and some lesser known ones that you might have missed. Here’s what to look forward to this year in Asheville:
The Tried and True
Dupont State Forest and Sliding Rock

The Dupont waterfalls and Sliding Rock are winners for any summer trip. The Triple Falls waterfalls in Dupont are just 29 miles from our cabins, and are a great option for seeing several waterfalls in a short hike. Not too far from Triple Falls is Sliding Rock, a natural water slide that leads into a (cool) 7-ft pool of water at the bottom. During this time of year, Sliding Rock has a lifeguard on duty 10 – 6 pm. During this monitored time, there is a fee of $3/per person. Dupont does close for high water and lightening storms, so keep that in mind if you are planning a visit during/after a summer storm.
Shindig on the Green

This is a fun Saturday night summer tradition, in it’s – get this – 53rd season! This takes place downtown at Pack’s Square Park, a beautiful green space with an outdoor stage. There is live bluegrass music, Appalachian dancing and plenty of food trucks to feed the crowd. Takes place Saturdays from July 6 – August 31st, and starts around sundown. Bring a chair to relax in, but leave Fido at home, as no pets are allowed on the Green.
Tubing and Rafting the French Broad

Cool down this summer with a water activity close to Asheville. Zen Tubing is only 7 miles from our cabins, and is a fantastic option for a relaxing float down the French Broad River. Want a little more excitement? Blue Heron Whitewater is 30 miles from our cabins, and is perfect for full or half-day rafting excursions.
Activities/events you have to try for 2019
Downtown Asheville 4th of July Festival of the Arts

This is the third year for this festival, and it can easily be missed due to the major holiday attached to it. After the fireworks have settled, however, you can enjoy this display of our incredible art scene! Takes place July 6th and 7th 10 – 5 pm, also downtown in Packs Square Park. View and purchase different art mediums such as jewelry, pottery, iron and textile.
RiverFest at New Belgium Brewery
July 20th is a can’t miss day to visit Asheville New Belgium Brewery. Non-profit River Link help protect the French Broad River and keep her clean, but they can’t do it without your help! The Anything Floats parade starts at 9 am, and involves floats and rafts of all kinds. Handmade by people who love this river!
Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds offers one, two and three bedroom cabins. These are located within the Asheville city limits, so you won’t be too far from the warm weather activities that make Asheville an outdoor-enthusiast’s paradise. We are nestled on 40 acres of woodland gardens that will appeal to everyone in your family.
