John Michael is a familiar face around Willow Winds. Not only is he the Maintenance Manager of our property, but he is family. Born and raised in Asheville, NC, he’s the person to ask about golfing, the plants around the property, and our local breweries. If you enjoy the beauty of our property, John and our maintenance staff are the ones who keeps Willow Winds gorgeous.
How long have you worked at Willow Winds?
I have worked at Willow Winds for 22 years.
What has been your most memorable experience during your time here?
I would have to say that the funniest would be the time that I accidentally caught on fire in the office… I leaned against a burning candle when chatting with a guest. The shirt went up, and the guests got to see me dance! Haha. Needless to say, we don’t have burning candles in the office anymore.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
As Maintenance Manager, I enjoy seeing an idea for the property become a reality. An idea in my head is one thing, but seeing that vision come to life is an incredibly satisfying feeling. From building water features and gardens, to designing a landscaping pattern, it’s gratifying to see it become reality.
What do you enjoy most about living in/near Asheville?
I was born here, this is my home. There is something for everyone in Asheville, and the fact that folks travel far and wide to visit my home is so wonderful. So it’s a short answer, but it’s because this is, and has always been, my home.
How do you enjoy spending your free time when not at Willow Winds?
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family boating at the lake. I also enjoy golfing at our local courses, and visiting Asheville breweries.
