FALL is just around the corner…
It doesn’t seem possible, but here we are. There’s a crispness to the air…sometimes… that will put you in mind of Autumn. There’s also the humidity that reminds you it’s still Summer in Asheville! As we get more of the crispness and less of the heat, lets plan for what September has in store for Asheville. We promise, you’ll FALL in love with Asheville this Autumn. Also, we promise no more Fall puns… in this blog at least.
Festivals and Events
North Carolina Apple Festival: August 30 to September 2, 2019

OktoberFest at Sierra Nevada: October 12, 2o19
Fall Leaf Forecast
Plan for the leaf change in 2019. Please keep in mind that these dates are estimates. Unfortunately, there are too many factors at play to accurately forecast when the leaves will be at their peak in Asheville. This is a best guess!
October 3-12th:
Higher elevations will start to see more color, so head to the hills if you want to see color this early. Elevations of +5,000 feet will show color, so a visit to Mt. Mitchell might be in order.
October 9 – 21st:
Dropping down to around 4,000 feet, this is a great time to visit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Mt. Pisgah also starts her color show, as well as Shadow of the Bear and Devil’s Courthouse.
October 16 – 28th
This week will probably prove to be the most popular, as rough predictions show this time period to have the most color in the mountains. Elevations of 3,000 – 4,000 feet such as Brevard, Looking Glass Rock and the Cradle of Forestry will hopefully have a kaleidoscope of colors to wow tourists and locals alike. Also, check out Bryson City, NC and Maggie Valley! The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad at Bryson City is a great way to peep at those leaves.
October 20 – 30th
We hope to expect some gorgeous color around Willow Winds during this time, as the lower elevations get a little love. Asheville, as well as Dupont State Forest and The Biltmore Estate should be decked out in brown, reds and brilliant oranges. Dupont State Forest is a great place to catch the color and waterfalls. This is the time to take in the beauty from the back deck of your cabin!
October 28 – Nov 7th
The color spreads to the lower elevations of 1,000-2,000 feet during this time period, so if you are coming in during this week, consider a 45 minute drive to Chimney Rock or Lake Lure. It’s just as gorgeous as at the higher elevations.
Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds offers one, two and three bedroom cabins located in the Asheville city limits. Nestled in the woods of Western North Carolina (yet only 15 minutes from downtown) you can enjoy many of Asheville’s fun events, while still coming back to a fall cabin in the woods. Fall in Asheville is unbelievable, see it for yourself!
