Enjoy more than just your cabin rental with our many on-site activities in Asheville, NC. Whether it’s hiking our beautiful trails, fishing in our trout pond, playing on our game porch, or watching a movie from our large DVD collection, we have it all available when you stay at Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds.
Trout Pond
Our trout pond is stocked for our guests and offers hours of fun for all ages. Of course, we are proud that many children catch their first fish here. They will always remember where they caught their first fish! You don’t need a fishing license, and you can catch and release or keep up to five per cabin per day. Please bring your own fishing equipment or pick up a simple set from our local markets.
Playgrounds
There are two playgrounds at Willow Winds, placed strategically to be of use to all cabins.
We first added the lower playground (behind Jackie’s Gem) with a water balloon launching station. Many guests’ favorite part of the property is the water balloon launching station. Open in the warmer months, this refreshing set up includes two opposing wooden forts with a heavy-duty slingshot on each one. There is a tap for each side to fill the balloons, so everything is fair and square in the water war. Water balloons are provided and are available at our office!
The lower playground also offers badminton, volleyball, a climbing fort, tetherball, and swings.
Then we added an upper playground (on Trout Trail) also complete with badminton, volleyball net, swings, and basketball hoop.
Both playgrounds offer equipment for the kids to climb on and conquer!
Game Porch
Next to the office lies our Game Porch. No quarters or tokens required. Challenge your crew to fun filled games. Table Shuffleboard, Skeet Ball, Foosball, Air Hockey, Basketball, and Ping Pong are available on the Game Porch located next to the Office.
Bocce Ball
The classic Italian game of bocce is simple yet combines the strategy of chess with the artistic flair of a Renaissance fresco. The Bocce court is located behind the Office and copies of the rules are posted court side.
Lifesize Chess Board
Next to our Bocce Ball court is an outdoor chess set. There is just something fascinating about walking on the chess board to play with giant pieces!
Horseshoes
Also located behind the office near the Bocce Ball and Chess areas is Horseshoes, the only game where closest is good enough to win!!! We also have Horseshoe Pits at the lower playground.
Hikes
There are trails all over our property with beautiful plant life and water features that will calm even the busiest of minds. Our trail adjoins North Carolina’s Mountains to Sea Trail (MST) which stretches from Clingman’s Dome in Great Smokey Mountains National Park to Jockey’s Ridge State Park by the Atlantic Ocean. You can access it by following Willow Lane to the cul-de-sac at the top of the hill.
Garden
Willow Winds has 25 fountains and gardens throughout the grounds. Take a leisurely stroll through the grounds to find something blooming almost year-round. The season starts early with millions of Daffodils that give way to masses of Azaleas and Rhododendron. Summer finds Black Eyed Susan’s, Magnolias, Stella Dora Lilies, and fragrant Roses in an abundant riot of color. Privets, Hostas, Pansies, and Begonias punctuate the forest with color and scent.
Hammocks
There are hammocks available in several locations on the property. Lie back during the day and enjoy the cool mountain breezes and a favorite novel. At night lie out and enjoy the stars and crisp mountain air.
Dog Run
Don’t leave your best friend at home! We offer pet-friendly cabins and now a fenced-in dog run for your dog to enjoy! Toby (pictured above) was one of the first to try out the new park. It got his seal of approval for sure.
