Here are skiing options that are so close to our cabins that you can easily make a day of it!
Cataloochee: Located in Maggie Valley, close to the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains and only an hour drive from our cabins. Cataloochee Ski Resort offers a run for every skill level, and is considered to be one the best in the Southeast. There's 18 skiing and snowboarding slopes, and lessons are offered. First timers need not worry!
Wolf Ridge: The closest to Asheville city center is Wolf Ridge Ski - 30 minutes north of Asheville and so much fun. There are 15 runs and 4 lifts.
Beech Mountain: Called the "coolest city" in North Carolina due the low low temperatures and high elevation. Skiing is the sport of choice in Beech Mountain, and the snowfall each year is perfect for enjoying a winter wonderland not too far from the city. The average annual snowfall is 84 inches, so be prepared to need 4-wheel drive or snow chains to access the resort. If skiing is not your thing, there is also snow hiking and snowshoes to rent. 2 hours from Asheville.
Banner Elk: Banner Elk is a gorgeous green space that every winter becomes a beautiful winter wonderland. Located between Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain, you won't be far from skiing in this town. There are tree farms for the holidays, and a surprisingly varied selection of restaurants for a town with a population of just 1,000.
Don't forget: when you stay at Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds in January, February or March, you can either receive a 10% discount, OR, stay two nights and get your third night free! That's more money to enjoy in the beautiful WNC mountains. Just ask us about our Winter Special when booking.
When a lot of folks think of Asheville, their minds go to the Biltmore Estate - and with good reason. The nation's largest privately-owned home almost literally put Asheville on the map. It is a can't-miss landmark with good reason. But after you visit the estate, what else should you see while you are in our beautiful mountain city?
There are couple of options that are great for horseback riding in/near the Asheville Area:
Sandy Bottoms:This riding company boasts not only beautiful trails, but a gem mine as well - and you keep all the garnets you find. There's something for the whole family! Offers 1 hour, 2 hour, 3 hour and 4 hour rides, but keep in mind that in winter months they do not ride if it is under 32 degrees Fahrenheit. A 45-minute drive from our cabins.
Saddle-Up Trail Rides: Saddle-Up is close to Asheville, and has exclusive access to Pisgah Forest (which is gorgeous!). They offer 1 hour rides, 2 hour rides, 3 1/2 hour rides, and full day rides can also be arranged. Only a 35 minute drive from our cabins!
Biltmore Estate Stables: Take a step back in time at Biltmore stables. Knowledgeable staff and gorgeous horses, if there is luxury horseback riding, this is it! These rides are great for beginners or intermediate riders, and riders can be as young as 8 years old. These are the closest to our cabins, as the estate is just a 7-10 minute drive from Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds.
Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds offers one, two and three bedroom cabins located in the heart of Asheville, NC. Only 7 minutes to Biltmore, and 15 minutes to downtown. Explore the beauty of the Western North Carolina mountains from the back deck of your cabins, relax in the hot tub and dry off in front of the wood-burning fireplace.
