The Asheville Art Museum re-opening was highlighted on Thrillist.com’s Coolest New Things Coming to America in 2019, and we couldn’t agree more, as this opening has been a long time coming. The 3rd oldest Art Museum in North Carolina, the Asheville Art Museum opened in 1948, and was successful from the start. However, lack of space (only 3% of the permanent exhibition could be on display at any given time) and a real need to update the existing lighting and HVACs have resulted in a much-awaited renovation. Planning started in 2005, and construction began 5 years ago. Finally, after all that time the re-opening is slated for Spring 2019! The first change you'll notice will be the aesthetic. The large glass façade will open up the museum to natural light during the day, and at night the museum returns the favor, lighting up Pack Square Park. A really cool timelapse of construction from July 2017 to March 2018 can be viewed on the Art Museum's Youtube channel.

This is it. This is the season we look forward to year round. While every season offers something special in Asheville, Fall is in a whole other league. There is a crispness to the air, and a warmth to the people (if we may say so ourselves) that means that a gorgeous time of year is upon us. With Autumn in Asheville, you not only get a change in the environmental aesthetic, but you have lots of opportunities for activities and events, and mother nature is (usually) on your side. While we are never sure when the leaf change will be in Asheville, chances are good that you would be only a short drive - thanks to our proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway - to a spot of gorgeous color.
