Family Vacation Ideas

The Asheville Art Museum re-opening was highlighted on’s Coolest New Things Coming to America in 2019, and we couldn’t agree more, as this opening has been a long time coming. The 3rd oldest Art Museum in North Carolina, the Asheville Art Museum opened in 1948, and was successful from the start. However, lack of space (only 3% of the permanent exhibition could be on display at any given time) and a real need to update the existing lighting and HVACs have resulted in a much-awaited renovation. Planning started in 2005, and construction began 5 years ago. Finally, after all that time the re-opening is slated for Spring 2019! The first change you'll notice will be the aesthetic. The large glass façade will open up the museum to natural light during the day, and at night the museum returns the favor, lighting up Pack Square Park. A really cool timelapse of construction from July 2017 to March 2018 can be viewed on the Art Museum's Youtube channel.

While you are visiting Asheville, there are a couple things you'll love to do while here:

-Hiking Dupont State Forest for some one-of-a-kind beautiful waterfalls.

-Biltmore Exhibit: A Vanderbilt House Party starts February 9th and will run through May 27th. Experience what it was like to be a guest of the extravagant Vanderbilts.

Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds offers one, two and three bedroom cabins located in the Asheville city limits, so you are never far from all that this beautiful city offers, whether it be art of the human or natural variety!

Picture this: you’ve arrived to Asheville, a beautiful natural landscape that offers a perfect environment for cycling. That’s what you are here for, and you are pumped. You’ve got your gear, you’re ready to explore what these roads and trails have to offer…but first you’ve got to figure out what the heck to do with your gear in your hotel room.

You'd rather just be thinking about this:

At Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds, you have an entire cabin to keep your gear situated, and plenty of stretching room after a big ride. You can sooth sore muscles by our seasonal wood-burning fireplaces, or in your own hot tub on your deck, overlooking our Woodland garden setting. We are located just a fifteen minute drive to downtown, and close to the Blue Ridge Parkway - and since we have 25 cabins on our property, all the members of a large cycling group can enjoy the amenities of their own cabin.

Brevard cycling offers brisk winter rides and milder temperatures in the summer, and trails for all types of cyclists. Is mountain biking more your style? Dupont State Forest is easily accessible and offers some of the best trails in the state.

Is road cycling more your thing? The Blue Ridge Parkway allows for a ride with phenomenal views.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is less than two miles away from our cabins, so we have been honored to have many traveling cyclists stay with us. Everyone has their favorite trails, favorite difficulty level and terrain, and favorite place in Asheville to relax afterwards! What better way to explore our beautiful city than to bike its beautiful forests by day, stop by your luxury cabin to freshen up, then head downtown to experience the one-of-a-kind Asheville restaurant and brewery scene?

Not too far from our cabins (about a 15 minute drive) is the NC Arboretum. Some of the trails here aren't going to be a challenge for a more adventurous biker,  as many of the bike paths are ideal for a family or someone looking for a relaxing ride - but they have a couple of steep trails that might just surprise the mountain bikers.

Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds is open year round, with something special for every season and interest. Call us at (800)235-2474 for more info about how we can become your new go-to vacation spot in Asheville, NC.
