The mountains here in North Carolina are too gorgeous right now to NOT be outside. One of the most popular questions here at the Asheville Cabins office is "where should I hike?" Its a good question; if this area is known for anything, it's for having some of the most stunning hikes on the east coast. You have the Blue Ridge Mountains tracing the clouds with ridge lines that seem designed by an artist, and waterfalls that break up the quiet of the woods in a spectacular way. It's a photo opportunity that shouldn't be missed, and here are some spots to grab the best shots.
Craggy Pinnacle Trail is a 1.5 mile roundtrip hike that offers exceptional panoramic views. Follow the Blue Ridge Parkway to Milepost 364 for the parking area, and be prepared to take LOTS of photos.
Mt. Mitchell boasts the honor of being the highest peak in mainland Eastern North America. At an elevation of 6,683 feet, there's no shortage of gorgeous views. Be prepared though, at that altitude the temperature drops significantly, so bring a coat! Only a hour and half drive from our location.
Dupont State Forest:
Only 50 minutes from our cabins, explore multiple waterfalls all a short hike of each other. Triple Falls offers the grandeur of waterfalls with a non-strenuous hike to visit each one. You'll love the beauty of the falls right now - in warmer months you can even relax in the cool pool at the bottom of the smaller falls. The ease of these hikes, and the proximity to our cabins make them a standout!
Under a hour and half drive away, this view is a local favorite. There are two different loops to hike, both easy. One is 1.4 miles, and offers a beautiful view from the summit, while the longer 2.4 loop circles the summit of the mountain. The views are outstanding at the summit, so don't forget your camera and a snack!

We would like to spotlight the people that make Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds what it is, thanks to their hard work and dedication to our guests. Today, we are putting a well-deserved spotlight on Donna Henderson, the Office Manager here at Willow Winds. Donna is certainly not a stranger to many of our "Willow Winders", who consider her not only a friendly face, but family.
MEET DONNA HENDERSON
How long have you been with Willow Winds?
4 1/2 years working here. But Willow Winds has been apart of my life for over 20 years. My Aunt and Uncle own it and my Mother worked here from the beginning. My Mother retired in 2014 and that is when I had the privilege to come to work at Willow Winds
What has been a memorable experience during your time here?
Every day I experience memories, and the reason I say that is because most the cabins are named after my family. Everytime I speak to a guest or one of our employee's about a cabin a memory comes back to me. I love it when a guest comes in the office, or I see them out on the grounds and they tell me how wonderful their cabin is -- it makes me feel honored to be a part of such a hard-working team of individuals, past and present. I loved this place for many reasons before I was employed, but everyday I love it more. It makes me so happy to see our guests visit and really and truly enjoy their stay and become part of our Family.
What do you enjoy most about living in/near Asheville?
I love living in/near Asheville for the same reasons we want our guest to come vacation at Willow Winds. It's the best of both worlds - We have the beautiful mountains and we have the City of Asheville. I can dress up and go out and about or I can take a hike in our beautiful outdoors.
How do you enjoy spending your free night when not at Willow Winds?
I love the outdoors as long as what I am doing isn't too strenuous. I love boating, camping and reading. I have to say this, I love playing with my 3 Granddaughters the best.
We aren't giving up on summer! The sun is shining and we are glad to offer new specials to make visiting Asheville all the more affordable.
