Warren Haynes has organized the Christmas Jam in Asheville for 24 years.[/caption]
The Warren Haynes Christmas Jam is an Asheville
tradition and this year marks the 24th
Anniversary of the show. Warren Haynes brings musicians with national and international notoriety to the stage in Asheville
, for an event that spreads throughout Downtown.
The main concert occurs the evening of Saturday, December 15th, 6:30 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center Asheville
(formerly the Asheville Civic Center). The Pre-Jam show is Friday, December 14th at The Orange Peel
and will be broadcast live on WNCW. Tickets for the Xmas Jam are sold out this year, though VIP tickets may still be obtained.
Those who missed initial ticket sales can still attend Xmas Jam events at Jack of the Wood, The Emerald Lounge, or The Asheville Music Hall slated for December 14th
. For related events at local establishments, tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis - so be sure to arrive early.

The Christmas Jam Lineup
The Warren Haynes Band always headlines the event and is known for bringing surprise guest musicians to sit in on jams. This year the lineup includes: Blind Boys of Alabama, Sheryl Crow, String Cheese Incident and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Special guests include Mike Barnes, Kevin Kinney and Anders Osborne. Many more will be added.
Christmas Jam Post Production Profits Donated to Charity
When Warren Haynes began the annual jam years ago, he and fellow musicians donated profits to various charities. For the last seven years, the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam donated over one million dollars to their charity of choice – Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. This year’s profits will go to Habitat for Humanity. The primary goal of the event is to bring musicians together and through donations, to provide housing for families in need. Volunteers can work on Habitat for Humanity houses the week prior to the event during “Before the Jam, Lend a Hand” volunteer week.
One of the most endearing and popular characteristics of the Christmas Jam is the way it welcomes musicians from the Western North Carolina area onstage with acclaimed musicians. Haynes says it is “Like a family reunion, the annual, one-of-a-kind, semi-structured marathon of music brings together old friends on stage.”
Other events around town tied into the Xmas Jam include the Christmas Jam Art Show at the Satellite Gallery, 55 Broadway Street
in downtown Asheville. Photos and art from past Christmas Jams will be on display. An official opening will occur from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, December 14th
with complimentary beer provided.
Xmas Jam Performances at Local Establishments
Attending an additional performance at a local bar or pub gives the music lover a chance to listen to the jam in a more intimate space and maybe even meet some of the musicians in person.
On Friday December 14th and Saturday December 15th at noon, Jack of the Wood
will host Kevin Kinney’s All Star Acoustic Jam. The music starts at noon each day and the cost is $10.
On Saturday, December 15th, The Emerald Lounge will host a concert at 12 noon
featuring: Delicious, The Folkadelics, Jeff Santiago, Simo and Velvet Truckstop. Cost is $10. Arrive early to ensure seating.
The Asheville Music Hall
will be the venue for another performance on Saturday, December 15th at 12 noon
