September Festivals to Plan For This Fall

This year has moved so quickly….can you believe it’s almost August!? With September just around the corner, consider coming to see us during a beautiful month that is chock full of festivals and events. It’s never too early to plan for these September festivals this fall!

NC Apple Festival– August 30 – Sept 2, 2019.

This festival signals the beginning of Fall in Western North Carolina! A longtime favorite of locals and visitors alike, this festival always takes place on Labor Day Weekend. The street festival winds through main street Hendersonville, and culminates in the King Apple Parade on Monday the 2nd.

Mountain State Fair – September 6 – 15, 2019

The Mountain State Fair brings people from far and wide to experience a good, old-fashioned fairground experience in the beautiful Western North Carolina mountains. There will be all the rides, carnival food and competitions that you’d expect, but with a distinctly Asheville focus on crafts and local agriculture. Check out the link for day-specific pricing, as they often have special tickets.

Goombay Festival – September 6 – 8, 2019

Celebrate the cultures of the African-Caribbean, and have a blast in the process. The Goombay Festival highlights musicians, food, and dances of nations from all over the Caribbean. This is not only educational, but a super fun way to celebrate that region’s cultural legacies. While the festival doesn’t have a website, this travel site has lots of good info.

Chow Chow Festival – September 12 – 15, 2019.

This is the first year for this festival, and from the looks of it will be a big deal in future festival seasons. This weekend boasts over 20 individual events, some ticketed and some open to the public, that will explore southern cuisine and the legacy of our culinary identity. There will be demos, plenty of samples, and a Food Truck Rodeo.

Greek Festival – September 27 – 29

The Greek Festival the smallest of our festivals listed here, but is a great time (we recommend trying the traditional desserts and Greek coffee). The festival has stalls like an “agora” market, so that you can purchase hand-crafted goods. With authentic cuisine, music and dancing, this is a party you don’t want to miss.

Not September, but…

The Brewgrass Festival is worth getting excited about. October 5, 2019!

Brewgrass Festival

Brews and bluegrass… need we say more? What could be more Asheville (heck, more North Carolina) than beer and live Appalachian music. Tickets aren’t on sale yet for 2019, so keep an eye out!

Not only is September beautiful in Asheville, but it’s a great time to visit if you wish to avoid the high season crowds of October, but still want a taste of a WNC (early) Autumn.

Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds offers one, two and three bedroom cabins located in the Asheville city limits. That way, you are only a short 5 miles from downtown. Plan for these Fall festivals ( and a great visit to our cabins) this September!
