Thrillist.com lists the new Asheville Art Museum as one of their “Coolest New Things Coming to America in 2019”.

The Asheville Art Museum re-opening was highlighted on Thrillist.com’s Coolest New Things Coming to America in 2019, and we couldn’t agree more, as this opening has been a long time coming. The 3rd oldest Art Museum in North Carolina, the Asheville Art Museum opened in 1948, and was successful from the start. However, lack of space (only 3% of the permanent exhibition could be on display at any given time) and a real need to update the existing lighting and HVACs have resulted in a much-awaited renovation. Planning started in 2005, and construction began 5 years ago. Finally, after all that time the re-opening is slated for Spring 2019! The first change you’ll notice will be the aesthetic. The large glass façade will open up the museum to natural light during the day, and at night the museum returns the favor, lighting up Pack Square Park. A really cool timelapse of construction from July 2017 to March 2018 can be viewed on the Art Museum’s Youtube channel.

While you are visiting Asheville, there are a couple things you’ll love to do while here:

Hiking Dupont State Forest for some one-of-a-kind beautiful waterfalls.

Biltmore Exhibit: A Vanderbilt House Party starts February 9th and will run through May 27th. Experience what it was like to be a guest of the extravagant Vanderbilts.

Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds offers one, two and three bedroom cabins located in the Asheville city limits, so you are never far from all that this beautiful city offers, whether it be art of the human or natural variety!
