Nov. 3, 2008. If you didn't get in enough studio strolls sponsored by the Asheville Downtown Gallery Association, the River Arts District has a chance for you to peruse their galleries this weekend. Located on the southeast end of Downtown, in a warehouse area along the French Broad River, this area has become a popular incubator for local talent. The Citizen-Times has a great article on the bi-annual event. Organizers estimate more than 100 artists will display work. The Riverside Studios Gallery just underwent a renovation, and the Wedge Brewing Company opened this spring. The Asheville Historic Trolley will also be running through the area this year, starting from the Chamber of Commerce on Montord Avenue (north of Downtown). This might be a great way for people to avoid searching for limited parking spots. Fare costs $5.
Begin by picking up a 2008 River District Artists Studio Guide at any of the studios, the Chamber, or online. Lunch will be available at Twelve Bones Smokehouse (featured on Good Morning America), Clingman Cafe, or Two Cousins Kitchen.
