Let’s take a moment to appreciate the art of good NC barbeque. There are those who argue about BBQ, about regional preferences and sauce types, methods and techniques, and claim that their style is the ONLY way to eat BBQ. In Asheville, we have a few barbeque options that are worth mentioning: if only because they are so good that almost everyone can agree!
Moe’s Bar B Que
Close to our cabins, this smokehouse is conveniently located in the historic Biltmore Village area. Offering BBQ standards such as pulled pork and sothoseme of the best cornbread in Asheville, as well as smoked wings and decadent desserts. This cozy restaurant is a great place to relax with a beer before venturing into the Biltmore Estate. Visit their website for more information.
12 Bones Smokehouse
Probably the BBQ place we get asked about the most, and the reputation is without a doubt deserved! There are two locations in Asheville, with the Sweeten Creek restaurant located only 4 miles from Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds. The Blueberry Chipotle Ribs are popular, as is the behemoth of a sandwich “Hogzilla”. A relaxed atmosphere and plenty of beer choices make this place a no-brainer of a lunch date. Visit the website for hours and more info.
Buxton Hall Barbeque
This is the newest of the BBQ options listed here, but it hasn’t taken long for the buzz about Buxton to spread. National food publications have celebrated the stellar menu, and with good reason: this is whole-hog barbeque. The smoked and fried chicken sandwich gets raved reviews, as does their scratch-made pies. Their website lists all of their delicious options!
This restaurant has an appreciation for quality comfort food, homemade and fresh. This location focuses on not just the meat, but on the important sides. The mac n hoop cheese and vinegar slaw are just the start, and there are tempeh options for vegetarians! There is a north or south location, and both are laid back and completely Asheville. Check the website for hours and menus.
