Staying at Greg’s Cabin at Willow Winds proved to be a great choice. I loved having my green tea in the morning on the outdoor balcony looking out at the Tulip trees and listening to the sounds of the fountains. The location was perfect: close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Downtown Asheville, and the Airport. There is so much to do here in this beautiful and majestic landscape!

Beautiful Local Drives in the WNC Mountains

The North Carolina portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway offers some of the greatest views in the Southeastern United States. Access to the Blue Ridge Parkway is less than two miles from our cabins, and the drive is beautiful no matter what direction you choose. Summer drives are lush and green, with velvet mountain tops and random bursts of color. In fall, the display is most spectacular; with gold hues and red accents as far as the eye can see. One direction will take you toward Pisgah National Forest and the gorgeous Craggy Gardens. The other way heads down into Nantahala National Forest where there are no shortage of scenic photo opportunities.

Not too far from the Blue Ridge Parkway is a drive that is worth seeking out called the Forest Heritage Scenic Byway. Along this 76-mile drive is Sliding Rock, The Cradle of Forestry and many other trails and waterfalls, with a focus on seeing the beauty of Pisgah National Forest. This portion is a favorite among motorcyclists due to its curves, and they have nicknamed the area the Copperhead Loop. Allow yourself several hours to finish this byway, especially if you plan on stopping for a picnic!

Town Mountain Road is downtown Asheville’s closest scenic drive. The drive follows up Beaucatcher Mountain and meets the Blue Ridge Parkway after about 6 miles. From there you can access the Elk Mountain Scenic Highway. Give yourself a little over an hour for this drive- it is a very convenient drive if you don’t have all day or don’t want to venture too far from Asheville.

We found Willow winds while researching for our 2nd annual girl’s trip ~ three sisters and our wonderful mother. We had a wonderful time at Beautiful Biltmore! It was nice to come back to “Mom’s Manor” and relax. We loved the pond, fountains, and hot tub. After a day of walking it was a nice retreat.

Thanks for a most relaxing and memorable atmosphere to enjoy time with my sisters and mother. We Loved It!!
