Here at Asheville Cabins, we are always happy to speak with folks on the phone to help them when they are planning a trip. There is a lot to look at when exploring the options in Asheville! It is our goal to make sure that they know what to expect from not only our property but the local area. Here are the most asked questions when guests are booking, and staying here at Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds:
When exploring Asheville Cabins as an option:
Are there hot tubs?
Absolutely! Each cabin has its own hot tub on the back patio/deck.
Are there grills anywhere on the property?
There are grills on the patios of every cabin. These grills are electric, so no need to bring charcoal.
What about fireplaces?
Also, yes! However, they are seasonal and only open from Mid-October to Mid-May, so if your arrival is around those transitions, it really could go either way depending on weather. If they are open, we provide the firewood, stacked nicely on your porch. We also have fire starter sticks and matches inside on the mantel of the fireplace.
Are there hiking trails nearby?
The Mountain-to-Sea Trail is a +1,000 mile trail that cuts from the Tennessee border to the Outer Banks of NC. There is an access point at the top of the property, so you don’t have to leave the property to hike a beautiful trail! This trail doesn’t loop, so remember to turn back when you are half-tired.
How close are you to downtown Asheville or Biltmore?
We are blessed to have an ideal spot in Asheville, NC. Our property is located within the city limits, only 7 miles one way to the Asheville Airport and 5 miles the other way to downtown Asheville. We are also only 3 miles from the Biltmore Estate. Not only does this mean that you can get to anything you need/want to do in less than thirty minutes, but also that Uber and Lyft are always passing through. This means less time finding parking and more time enjoying the Asheville breweries, knowing you’ll be getting home safe!
What’s stocked in the cabins?
We’ve been here since 1994, and have continuously kept note of what guests need the most over the years (iPod docks may have faded out a bit but HDMI cords stay strong!) We have it so that when you open that front door, you’ll have what you need to enjoy the evening without a trip back out. We provide all dishes, silverware, cookware, and appliances like slow cookers and blenders. All paper products (toilet tissue, paper towels, facial tissue, etc), linens, towels, laundry soap and softener sheets for your in-house washer and dryer, dish pods and detergent, even tiny bar soap and conditioning shampoo.
What do we need to bring?
We like to say bring yourself, your loved ones, and food! The cabins will have anything you need to cook a full meal, except for the food. We have a grocery store map at the office we’ll give you upon check-in. The closest is only a two minute drive from our cabins. We also have a grocery order service we offer that can be utilized if requested at least three days before arrival.
Questions from guests staying with us:
Our office is located on property, open 9-5 PM 7 days a week so you just have to walk or drive down from your cabin if you need anything at all. Our office has several maps and travel guides of Asheville and the Western North Carolina Mountains. Also, feel free to pick our brains if you need recommendations from a local!
Where are the best waterfalls close to here?
We have lots of beautiful hiking on property (and a some smaller waterfalls we are quite fond of), but perhaps you seek one of WNC’s famous waterfalls? The first one we recommend is Dupont State Forest. Located near Brevard, it’s a little less than 30 miles from our property. There are the Triple Falls, three falls situated closely so that you can enjoy one waterfall right after another. Just a bit closer there is a waterfall called Catawba Falls. This one is only 24 miles from our property.
What do you recommend for breakfast?
Well check out this recent blog post on breakfast spots you can’t miss in the Asheville area. We are spoiled for choice here with some unbelievable delicious food options.
What do you recommend for food delivery?
Many of our local eateries have a delivery option through one or several of the delivery services provided to this area. We recommend Takeoutcentral.com, and use it frequently in our office!
Are there bears in the area?
This is a question we get a lot. It’s a good one too, as it is always important to be aware of the native wildlife you may encounter during your trip. While it isn’t a guarantee to see a bear on your trip, they are certainly around. We recommend that you do not leave any food in your car. If you throw away any food in the trash can next to your cabin, make sure the lid is down to help deter any hungry animals – bears or raccoons!
How do I take advantage of the Trout Pond?
Any guest staying with us may use our trout pond while visiting. Since it is on private property, you don’t need a fishing license. You may catch and release, or keep up to five per cabin per day. These are Rainbow Trout, and are delicious if cooked on your grill in foil with a little butter! We have whole kernel corn in the office for bait, but do not have fishing rods to rent.
While these are the most asked questions from guests, certainly they are not the only ones we get asked, and a lot of what you need to know depends on what you plan on doing, and how you want to spend your time here. No guest or experience is one size fits all, which is why we love to hear from you! We are in the office 9-5 PM, seven days a week, don’t hesitate to give us a call at (800)235-2474.
