This is our 2nd visit to Andrew’s Attic and we find that we love it more each time we visit! It is a perfect get away – so romantic and peaceful! We’re counting the days until we can return!

Ski Resorts to visit this Winter – Just a Day Trip from our Cabins.

Here are skiing options that are so close to our cabins that you can easily make a day of it!

Cataloochee: Located in Maggie Valley, close to the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains and only an hour drive from our cabins. Cataloochee Ski Resort offers a run for every skill level, and is considered to be one the best in the Southeast. There’s 18 skiing and snowboarding slopes, and lessons are offered. First timers need not worry!

Wolf Ridge: The closest to Asheville city center is Wolf Ridge Ski – 30 minutes north of Asheville and so much fun. There are 15 runs and 4 lifts.

Beech Mountain: Called the “coolest city” in North Carolina due the low low temperatures and high elevation. Skiing is the sport of choice in Beech Mountain, and the snowfall each year is perfect for enjoying a winter wonderland not too far from the city. The average annual snowfall is 84 inches, so be prepared to need 4-wheel drive or snow chains to access the resort. If skiing is not your thing, there is also snow hiking and snowshoes to rent. 2 hours from Asheville.

Banner Elk: Banner Elk is a gorgeous green space that every winter becomes a beautiful winter wonderland. Located between Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain, you won’t be far from skiing in this town. There are tree farms for the holidays, and a surprisingly varied selection of restaurants for a town with a population of just 1,000.

Don’t forget: when you stay at Asheville Cabins of Willow Winds in January, February or March, you can either receive a 10% discount, OR, stay two nights and get your third night free! That’s more money to enjoy in the beautiful WNC mountains. Just ask us about our Winter Special when booking.

I’m sitting on my favorite rocking chair on the large covered porch ~ looking down the grass hill, past the herb garden to the lovely fish and fountain pond, surrounded by thick trees of every description including two of my favorite ~ Weeping Willows.

The grill is heating; waiting for the lamb chops I bought at the Farmers Market this morning.

I enter the living room with the high ceiling, stone fireplace, leather couches and rocking chairs; which many years ago was a one room cabin.

Sunlight filters through one of the long glass sliding doors which through the other I see my hammock waiting for me.

I’m home again; “Pat’s Place” is mine.
