4 Reasons to Visit Asheville in 2022

Town of Asheville

Named one of the ‘top 50 places to visit in 2020’ by Travel + Leisure, Asheville is a world-renowned travel destination. Even though the new year still brings about some uncertainty, one thing is for sure, an unforgettable vacation still awaits you with a visit to Asheville in 2022. Discover below why you should visit Asheville next year and start planning your trip today.

Explore the Blue Ridge Parkway in an entirely new way

The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the most scenic drives in all of America. And now you can cruise the parkway in the open-air Polaris Slingshot, available through Joyride Slingshot Rentals. Take in the sights from every angle with this unique driving experience, that’s not quite a car and not quite a motorcycle. If you can drive a car, you can operate one of their slingshot vehicles. Full-day rentals (for eight hours) are available.

Visit Grandfather Mountain

Visit the iconic Grandfather Mountain, just 75 miles north of Asheville off the Blue Ridge Parkway for the opening of the Wilson Center for Nature Discovery. In 2022, the Wilson Center will nearly double the size of the original Nature Museum. A dozen new state-of-the-art interactive exhibits will be added to encourage real connections to the natural history, flora, fauna, geology, and weather of the mountain. The new facility has been thoughtfully designed to make the most of Grandfather’s natural surroundings, helping bring the great outdoors inside. Its anticipated opening is set for June 2022.

An immersive art experience

In honor of celebrating the Cherokee influence on Southern Appalachia, an immersive public art experience is being introduced to downtown Asheville, called The Basket. Opening in 2022, this work of public art will take up about 750 square feet of downtown Asheville in celebration of the traditional Cherokee craft of basketry. The piece will provide people a space to gather outdoors with friends and family to learn about the contributions of Cherokee culture to contemporary Asheville.

Legends of Art & Innovation at the Biltmore

Kicking off in November of 2021 with “Van Gogh Alive”, the Legends of Art & Innovation at the Biltmore will continue with classic works of art and design by Monet and Da Vinci in 2022. “Monet & Friends — Life, Light & Color” honors the work of Claude Monet and other impressionist painters with a larger-than-life display from March 9 to July 10, 2022.

The “Leonardo da Vinci — 500 Years of Genius” will run July 14, 2022, to Jan. 8, 2023) and will showcase the artist/inventor’s genius and extraordinary achievements as they are brought to life in a one-of-a-kind immersive experience.
