5 Reasons to Visit Asheville in the Winter

View of trees and hill tops

Asheville, no matter what time of year, is a popular destination for family vacations, couple’s getaways, or fun with your friends. While summer and fall are the most popular times to visit, Asheville in the winter also provides some fun things to do, all with fewer crowds and discounted rates. Discover how you can enjoy a winter vacation to Asheville and start planning your getaway today!

Admire the Asheville art scene

Asheville in the winter is the perfect time to stroll the streets in search of a piece of art that speaks to you. Visit or window-shop over two dozen art galleries that line the streets of downtown Asheville. The River Arts District is by far one of the best places to start your art exploration. The industrial area has become the home to over 180 artists spread throughout 25 different buildings.

Hiking trails at the NC Arboretum

While the NC Arboretum isn’t in full bloom during the winter months, it does offer a certain peacefulness in the winter with fewer crowds and the stillness that can often come with winter. There are over 10 miles of hiking trails inside the garden. Hikers of all skill levels are welcomed with their easy, moderate, and difficult hikes. Certain trails even connect to other area attractions such as the Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Visit a brewery

After your hike, warm up with a beer at one of the many breweries in town. One of the many things Asheville is known for is its collection of craft breweries. Asheville is home to over 30 breweries, each with its own unique character, style, and beer. Discover a few of our favorite spots to warm up with a good brew, or sign up for a guided tour to several area breweries.

Spend a day at the Biltmore Estate

While any time of year is ideal for visiting the famous Biltmore Estate, winter is especially lovely, especially after a fresh snowfall. With a plethora of both indoor and outdoor activities, you can visit no matter what the weather has in store. Enjoy unique exhibitions such as the Van Gogh and Monet immersive art experiences (in 2022), peaceful walks through the grounds, wine tasting at the Antler Hill Village and Winery, plus discounted rates for general admission entrance.
